THIS MONTH'S FEATURED PLACES TO GO

Amazingly there's almost 100 places to eat and drink in Southsea, no wonder it's the hottest night out in the city.

Our guide to where to go highlights our restaurants, bars and music venues. Albert Road and Palmerston Road are the main hubs of evening and lunchtime entertainment but there are some wonderful hidden gems off the beaten track if you fancy exploring a little further.

For Real Ales try The Hole in the Wall in Great Southsea Street, a traditional local serving a constantly changing selection of cask-conditioned real ales along with a range of other beverages including ciders and an excellent alcoholic ginger beer.

If Cider's your thing then what about the Florence Arms, it's renowned for its well kept Real Ales, with Youngs Special bitter and Addlestones cider always available and usually a guest ale or two to ring the changes. They've a special menu for the specialist ciders alone and they love dogs - feel free to take a dog or two, there are biscuits on the counter.

The King Street Tavern is a quirky place with a traditional billiard table, live jazz on a Saturday night and a small but wonderful home cooked menu. Dog friendly and a lovely quiet courtyard this tiny corner of Southsea is a tranquil oasis for the discerning customer.
